About Demokriti
Mission and Scope:
Demo/Kriti is a peer-reviewed journal devoted to studying the intersections between democratic politics and the cultural, economic, and technological forces shaping the modern world. Approaching democracy as a field of practices—from forms of administration, electoralism, and state-building to community organizing, strikes, and riots—the journal publishes scholarship that reshapes how we think about “the people” (demos) and the acts of “creation” (kriti) through which they are formed.
Bringing together scholarship from across the humanities and social sciences, Demo/Kriti foregrounds work that connects questions of democracy to capitalist economies, labor, digital technologies, mass media, and artistic production. In addition to research articles, the journal also features sections that offer on-the-ground perspectives: written reports and video essays on global protests, immigration movements, and slum cultures; analyses of wealth accumulation; interviews with activists and leading scholars; book reviews; and summaries of theoretical trends from around the world. Affiliated with The Center for Transcultural Studies, Demo/Kriti advances a collaborative and globally engaged model of publishing: one that bridges academic and public discourse, and fosters dialogue across a global network of scholars, activists, and communities.
